Sharon Way-Howard is a life-long resident of the south shore of Long
Island, who grew up in Bay Shore and Sayville and has her home and studio
in East Islip. Sharon is drawn to the beauty of the waterfront and the
nature
surrounding
it. Growing up in her parents' boatyard in Islip: fishing, sailing and
birding with her dad, numerous travels to the naturally beautiful areas
of the U.S. - all of these have influenced Sharon's outlook and perspectives
on her art. Currently, for her artistic growth, Sharon enjoys exploring
a wide variety of media.
Her work has received numerous awards,
has been juried into many national exhibitions and is in private &
corporate collections throughout the U.S. and abroad. Sharon is a member
of the prestigious Salmagundi Club in NYC (where she is Chairman of
the Art Committee and serves on the Board), the National Association
of Women Artists, the Pastel Society of America, the American Artists
Professional League, the National Art League, Audubon Artists,
Wet Paints Studio Group, STAC, South Bay Art Association, the Art
League of Long Island and is a COGAP artist (U.S. Coast Guard artist).
The July/Aug 2002 issue of Pastel Artist International magazine featured
"Young Gull", one of her pastels. The cover of the June 2003
issue of the Fire Island Tide featured “Summer’s Reflection,”
one of her acrylics and the Heckscher Museum in Huntington used the
same piece as cover art for their Family Gallery Guide.
Sharon has juried several shows for local
art organizations as well as doing demonstrations. She teaches art at the Islip
Art Museum. She participates in many outdoor shows on Long Island, Connecticut
and New Jersery including the Washington Square Outdoor Show. Sharon is represented
by Phoenix Gallery in Bellport, NY and The Flying Pig Gallery in Sussex, NJ.
